Public resources available in California
Californians can apply for library cards at all major California public libraries. Applicants must apply in person for each card and show a valid California driver’s license.
Major library systems
| Los Angeles County Library | Library cards are available for free to permanent and temporary residents of California. The library provides online access to: Gale Virual Reference Library, Literature Resource Center, National Newspapers, Newspaper Source, Opposing Viewpoints and other ebook, music and video resources. | Sacramento Public Library | Library cards are available for free to residents of California. The library provides online access to Academic Journals, Newspapers, eBooks, media and much more. A list of resources is available online. |
| San Diego Public Library | The San Diego Public Library (SDPL) serves the informational, educational and recreational interests of San Diego through the Central Library, 35 branches, and an online program. | San Francisco Public Library | Residents of California may obtain a library card for free. Applications are available at the Main Library and all branches and are to be submitted in person.
